Dear unwanted companion of mine,

How we got together is a wonder through time,

Dear mutation that weakens my body,

Will I be able to walk when I’m thirty?

Dear companion letting me look healthy,

Making sure no one truly perceives me,

They might think that it is all pretend,

Deaf of my cries when to myself I tend,

Dear companion who took my passion away,

After every movement you have forced me to lay,

Dear illness slowly taking me down,

The time has not come for me to take a bow,

I resent you and cherish you as you make me stronger,

With my struggle as motivation,

When I stand, I stand taller.
